Sukhjit 2.0

I’ve been hit in a game of virtual tag by my friends Andrew Fielding and Ryan Graves and now one more time by my friend Phil Baumann. I never  knew that such a thing existed, but apparently it’s an online phenomenon and this is how it works. When you get tagged, you’re supposed to share 7 things about yourself that people don’t know. I’m a pretty open book so it’s very likely that if you know me at all, you probably already know these things. I have to say thought, I’ve really enjoyed learning the 7 things each friend has shared. So here goes my 7:

  1. As you can probably tell, family is really important to me. I’m the youngest of 4 kids and the only one born in the United States. My Dad immigrated to California in the late 60’s and after getting settled he sent for my Mom, brother and sisters. I was born years later. We’re all adults now, but I’m still treated like a little sister. I usually don’t mind, but sometimes I do.
  2. I’m a big fan of 60’s and 70’s Hindi films. My favorites are Kabhi Kabhi & Silsila (even thought it’s early 80’s) and in my opinion, Rekha is by far the most glamorous actress ever. My parents get some Indian television stations, so when I’m home visiting them I get a major fill of Desi video content. I think both my parents are addicted to Indian soap operas.
  3. I love chocolate and ice cream and eat one or both every day ( but only a little bit =). Sticky chew chocolate from Swensen’s is the ultimate ice cream flavor and salted caramel from Bi-Rite is second.
  4. Basketball used to be my favorite sport. I even played in high school. Now I prefer yoga, running and when I can, hitting the slopes with my snowboard.
  5. Green is my favorite color. My birthstone is emerald and my Mini Cooper is British Racing Green.
  6. For quite a few years I worked as a local Bay Area traffic reporter.  I was myself on the TV morning news shows but when I did radio reports I had other names! I was Liz Green and Liz Brown. My reports sounded something like: “Heavy traffic at the the MacArthur Maze, especially west bound on the Eastshore Freeway. Bay Bridge is light and the metering lights are off and Bart is reporting all trains on time this morning. For the Bay Area’s best traffic coverage, I’m Liz Green, KGO radio news!”
  7. I’m really good at parallel parking. One time I parked my Brother In Law’s rental SUV at night,  in a storm on a steep hill without a problem. It’s not unusual for me to pass up a big parking spot for a smaller more challenging one. It’s crazy, I know, but I like the challenge.

Part two of this game, is that I get to tag 7 other people and ask them to share 7 things…. I’m not usually one to respond to chain emails or forward things that are meant to be spread. I just don’t do that… but in this case, I think it’s actually a great way to get to know people. So now that I’ve shared my 7 secrets, now I ask these 7 friends to do the same:

Kiki Valdes

Phil Moneypenny

Wanker Girl

KeeptheFunkAlive KDFA!

Ohdoctah

Mayjah

IamKat

Here are the rules of the game as copied from Andrew’s blog:

    Can't wait! --sukhjit
  • Now, we know a little more about you. Next time I need to do parallel parking, I will contact you.
  • Hey! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I should give parallel parking lessons! Take care. --sukhjit
  • Larry
Nicely done! Love the fact that you were able to poach the ex-communicated 12 seconds video... I'll rent smaller cars from now on.
  • He he he! It's a secret Larry! Nice to see you today BTW. Say hi to my dear sister and nieces! --sukhjit
  • nice post, i'm a pretty decent parallel parker myself, growing up and working in DC its a must have skill. I do the same thing when i scope out parking spots because i drive a Scion, its fun to blow peoples mind when they see me park.
  • Parallel park off, what do you think?
  • My mom was fanatical about Kabhi Kabhi & Silsila back in the day. As little kids we heard those songs in our house - it seemed every day. Sometimes I'll hear one of these songs in a restaurant and will literally freeze - thinking about my mom! :-) What to say about Amitabh Bachchan the heros of these movies?????? I personally think Amitabh Bacchan is the best actor ever - in any category, across any country. One little fact, my sister is named after his wife - since my dear mother also loved them both in Abimaan! :-)
  • Hello Shialesh! Don't you just miss the days when there was only a handful of Hindi film stars to keep track of. Now there is a gagillion. Sounds like your Mom and I have the film thing in common. I'd still name a kid Rekha or Hema... maybe even Jai.. that is a great name. I'm actually a fan of Amitabh's son too... do you like him? Some people have mixed feelings.

Hope the new year is treating you well! How is the littlest member of the family? She must be a few weeks old now. --sukhjit
  • What is so fun about reading other's facts, is not so much about the facts themselves, but how opening the book is making the person even dearer to us! Well, of course, because we rarely open the book about our bad deeds, uh?

Thanks for sharing once more, dear Sukhjit, and beware of the tags, they often come to you more often than you would like to get them! The world of blogs is a twirling zone! :-)
  • Hi Otir! You say the nicest things! Like a said in the post, I am a pretty open book, but quite a few of those things I hadn't thought of in years. It's fun to remember the little things, like when I was working as a radio traffic reporter and how I had to use a different name (and I wasn't happy about it). Fun to see that now because I get to be sukhjit and even have the site sukhjit.me!

I loved seeing your Hanukkah videos & experiencing the rituals in your family... and getting to know your boys better via video. Precious. I remember thinking way back when I was in college and my professors described the way people would be stuck to their computers and would never have to leave home for anything. I was terrified by that concept because I thought it would isolate us. Instead, especially with Web2.0, it's been the opposite. We get to experience more of people's lives and meet people we would otherwise never get a chance to meet... and I get to share 7 silly facts!
  • You are so right! Not only did it not isolate us, but it is a fabulous tool to bring people together by allowing each and everyyone the experience of the different, of the unknown, of the once remote now accessible, of the communicating and sharing.

There are always - and there always will be - some who will despise, and fear the newest tools, because it deprives from the ignorance that benefits them only. Power to knowledge and to sharing !
  • Wow, you used to be a radio reporter and you didn't use your real name...interesting. Thanks for participating in this game of tag Liz Green :P
  • Long story about Liz Green! I'm going to have to send you a video to explain that one! You know I don't do nicknames!
  • Send away, I'll be looking at my seesmic inbox :)
  • Seesmic video reply from Disqus.
  • Nice Sukhjit!!! I'd love to take you on with a parallel parking challenge!
  • You are on! When you visit SF next make sure to let me know. I'll find us a good hill to part on!

Also, so happy to hear about your engagement! I knew it was coming when I read your #1 fact about you!!! Happy holidays --sukhjit
  • Yes that #1 fact was an intentional precursor!

So fun! I hope you say the pics?
