Blogging and Belly Dancing

Blogging and Belly Dancing

What do blogging and belly dancing have to do with each other? Absolutely nothing… that is unless my friend Adam Helweh is involved. Adam puts on a social media mixer called the “Secret Sushi Social” and part of the June Social was Egyptian Dancing. The food was awesome and the raffle was great but more importantly it was an opportunity to meet other people interested in social media. I got to talk to Jun Loayza, founder of Viralogy.com. Viralogy is a site that helps bloggers get noticed, something I think is important when you’re a little blogger like me! Once you register your blog, Virology calculates your site’s rating based on data like your popularity in various social media spaces. In theory, you don’t have to be a big blogger to rank on the site, which is nice because it’s a chance for fresh voices to be heard.

I just registered Sukhjit 3.0 on Viralogy yesterday. I did have a small challenge figuring out what category my blog fits under since I cover a spectrum of things on this site. But I’m going to see if it can help my blog get some recognition. What do you think? I know a lot of your have blogs that you love and your content is fantastic. Let’s try Viralogy together and compare notes!

Last, if you watched the video outtake and are wondering what that was all about, I was trying to get a dance lesson from the owner of the Egyptian dance school but she wouldn’t let me record while getting my lesson. Needless to say, the song ended while we were debating back and forth! Sometimes I wish I wasn’t always compelled to record things because then I might have been able to learn some new moves! If you’d like to see some awesome pictures from the event check out Ken Yeung’s photos from the night… and thanks Ken for the thumbnail image for this blog!

wow, great work, sukhjit. great information in a surprising venue! seeing you belly dance would definitely be more than any man could take, so it's probably best you bowed-out. so creative, even without coffee! ;)
  • Mike! Glad you liked the video. I really appreciate your comments! Have you looked at Viralogy? I like what they are doing.. and we'll see if it helps me!

I might still get a belly dancing lesson, thought I am pretty certain I can't move the way those girls could. They were awesome. It was such a great show. You should try and go to a Secret Sushi Social next time there is one. Great people. --sukhjit

yes, i checked out viralogy. cool stuff. they should do well.

you should take a lesson! i'm certain you would do very well. just take me with you when you go:) i'll hold the camera. yes, the secret sushi social looks intriguing. i'm looking it up now and will attend the next function. secret, mysterious things are often fun.
  • Nice video as always! Although the belly dancing part was just a teaser! As for blog recognition, I agree it's really important, and I am never working on it for lack of time, but I know I should if I really wanted that my messages get accross (and I dream that they do, but hey, never mind, a little at a time is all I can take!).

I hope your blog will get better and better visibility!
  • Thank you @Otir! And thanks for the visit! After your feedback I am considering going back to the egyptian dance school and seeing if she will let me record my lesson. I got more footage but I don't think any of it was good enough to showcase the beauty of the dance and costumes.

Anyway, always nice to see you! Oh, and yes, the headline was... mmm... maybe I should change it.... ; ) --sukhjit
  • Hi Sukhjit!

I was really hoping I'd get to see YOU belly-dancing...

    Perhaps next time. :-)
  • @dougquance! It took a post titled belly dancing to hear from you! How have you been my friend!? Been wondering why I never see you anymore. Hope you are well! BTW- I really did try and get a lesson, but I couldn't record and learn... that's the funny part of the outtake... the instructor kept telling me to put my camera down and I kept telling her I wanted to record... well it was funny to me. Hope you are well! --sukhjit
  • I've been fairly busy trying to stay alive in real estate... am now working on my insurance license, as I must expand my horizons. I can't wait for the housing market to return... I've already waited too long.

It's hard to stay on top of the social networks...

    :-)
