Come to the 12seconds.tv party with me…

The guys at 12seconds.tv co-hosted a party in Santa Cruiz with UserVoice and NextSpace. I really like 12seconds.tv and the people that run it. So, I piled in the car with my friends Joan and Giannii and we made the drive out of San Francisco (eek!) for the party. The lights are low and the music is loud, but I feel like I got some great moments. And yes, the fabulous DJ really was playing Bhangra!

If you haven’t tried 12seconds.tv yet, you should. It’s a site that lets you post 12 seconds of video using your webcam. I think of it as the video equivalent of twitter. Once you start posting, those videos live on your channel. Friends can tune in and comment on your video with either text or a 12second video back.

It took me a little while to finally post a video to 12seconds.tv, but once I did, I found it to be a great tool to express and have fun. What can you do in 12 seconds? That’s what I thought at first but 12 seconds is longer than you think. I like doing a series of videos that all add up to a story, I’ve got a few of those on my channel. For the most part people are there to have fun which is one of the reasons I keep coming back, the community. Beach, Sol, Jivebotic, and David give a lot of attention to the site and the community, and I think it’s paying off. Even before I met any of them in person they made the effort to get to know me better, by watching my video’s, commenting and actually listening and paying attention. Sounds like a small thing, but it’s not. When you’ve got a growing community like they do it’s hard to keep up. But they’re doing it.

I’ve mentioned to a couple friends that are interested in video blogging that 12seconds.tv is a great entry. You can make a few video’s, have some fun and get warmed up to the idea of talking to your webcam! In addition, if your cel phone records video, you can 12seconds with it too.

If you’re reading this blog I want to know if you use 12second.tv? What do you think of it? If you haven’t tried it what’s holding you back?!

One last thing, thanks to the guys of 12seconds.tv for inviting me to the party. I hope you like the video!

  • I read some good reviews about your blog. Keep up the good work and keep on partying.
  • disqus is great.
it enables you to video reply or post comments.
  • I agree! Disqus is great... I hope next time you come around sukhjit 3.0 that you'll check out the video comments.. that's my favorite part of my site and made possible by Disqus and Seesmic!

Take care and thanks again for the visit! --sukhjit
  • Wow cool ! It seemed to be fun. Thanks for sharing and the using links . i will check it out.
  • don't you work for seesmic aren't they you're direct rivals?
  • Hi again Liam. The link I left didn't go where it's supposed to! Try this one instead: http://seesmic.com/video/EBrE3g4kcL See ya soon. -- sukhjit
  • Hi Liam, thanks for the note and for coming by my site.

As for seesmic, ((big sigh)) I'll let Rachael AKA Newspop explain here: http://seesmic.com/videos/Wdmki75b37

I started sukhjit.me soon after that. I'm trying to build a place where friends & community can be a part of what I'm up to. The thing I miss thought, is hearing more about you all... that's why the comments, both video and text are my favorite thing here! I really appreciate that you stopped by the site and left a comment! Hope you'll check in again. --sukhjit
  • Nobody invites me to anything! See if i invite you to the Berkeley Psychic Institute Psychic Faire on Saturday! Oh, i already did. Well i'm going and i'm gonna find out when the next cool party is and won't need you anyhow! um, ok, i know you knew i was out of town. but still i can't stand fun happening without me. boo-hoo. Ok, i'm over it. I do want everyone to know that i grew up with a disco ball in my house. I think we installed it when i was 12. Now, do you see where the illusions of grandeur comes from? Ok, ok, i'm answering the questions: 1. No, I have not used 12 seconds tv yet. 2. I had no opinion of them but now that i've seen the disco ball i feel like these people know me. they get me. 3. What's holding me back is that i haven't figured out the spiritual significance of the number 12 yet. Once I do, I'll be on.
  • Miss Rachael, I sent your comment to Beach and Sol. They're in charge of party invitations! Thanks for leaving a note here. I just love seeing you're sunglass wearing thumbnail pop up!

  • So I will simply say FUN. You had a great time thanks for talking to cool people and sharing!
  • @ohdoctah Hey! Just saw your comment. Thanks!
  • This video made me smile and laugh. Great work. Very cool hearing what the 12seconds guys had to say about community. Super good stuff.
  • Thanks Tony! Great to see you here and as always, I love to see the comments. Yes, Beach's (David Beach) comments about building community is my favorite part of the story. I had a feeling you would like that part too. Hope you are having a nice weekend. --sukhjit

ps Please ask Kandy if she had fun at the craft fair. Thanks!
  • I'm so jealous, I wanted to go to that but they keep not having parties in the Seattle area. Someday when they've bought Twitter and are big stars...
  • Hey Pasha! Great to see you here. I love the idea of the 12seconds guys being so big that they buy twitter! WHEN they have a party in Seattle... I'm going to ask to be the official videographer ... although after editing the piece here I promised myself I would stop filming in dark, loud places! That being said, it was really fun and I'm glad I had my camera! Thanks again for leaving a comment! -- sukhjit
  • love it! thanks for this! I so wanted to be there! family with more family! this helps me capture the energy.
  • Yay!!! Kevin's here! Yeah, I go back and forth about producing this video... on one hand it is so loud and so dark... and on the other hand it was so much fun and the moments are precious.

You were missed there, Kevin! We have such a small world sometimes... and I love it.

Thanks a million for leaving a message!
  • Nice job, looked like fun.
  • Yay! Hey Nerd Stalker! Thanks for stopping by! I wish you had made it to the party too! I'm so use to hanging out with you at all the cool web events! Thanks for the nice words about the video... as you can see... I'm still working out the audio (argh!).... I know you of all people appreciate what it takes to accomplish one of these little stories.

Best wishes to you and your family on Thanksgiving Adolfo!
  • That was a really great video. Fantastic work. It was great seeing you at the party (and at the digg party the night before!)
  • Oh, one more thing! I keep meaning to change your name in the article I wrote but now I figure I can just ask you which you prefer: Jivebotic or Justin? You choose.
  • Hmmm. Perhaps Jivebotic is more recognizable than Justin. I don't mind either way though!
  • By the way, watching all the videos on your site here is *really* inspiring...I think I may just have to ask Santa for an HD video camera this Christmas.
  • Do it! Do it! The new Flip is out and it's HD. I shot all the videos I did at TechCrunch50 with a first gen Flip. It was great.

Vlogging has been really good for me, but to tell you the truth, it's the comments that I find the most satisfying. When people stop by and leave video or text comments... it makes me want to go shoot more stories! It's addictive... time consuming... and FUN. Do it.
  • Hi Justin! Great to see you too! I'm so glad you like the video and I really appreciate that you came here and commented!

I think my video captures the fun atmosphere you guys created at the party! At some point I might do a more "traditional" video about 12seconds.tv and you guys for people who don't know about it yet. For now, I think this little video is perfect for 12seconds friends, that didn't get to Santa Cruz for the party, to experience a little bit of the 12second-Bhangra-party magic!
  • yay! This is so cool Sukhjit! Thank you! I think you made us look better than we are. :) It was so nice to meet you in person and to see Joan and Giannii too. I can't wait for the next time!
  • BEACH! Wow! It is so nice to see your comment! I must tell you, as a producer, one of the most exciting parts of vlogging is getting to interact with people after they've watched the story! It's really cool to see you here and I appreciate it. I won't get into the details too much, but one of the biggest draws to me of producing for the web vs television is that I get to hear from people and I love that!

I'm glad you liked the video! I'm still finding my feet with the production value, but I'm getting there! Feel free to share if you like it. I think you tell the story of 12seconds so well. It's something I always wondered about so it was great to hear it from THE Man.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, David! Thank you again for stopping by my site and commenting!
