How do you do it? How do you do all the things you need to do in a day? How do you work your heart out and then still have time for yourself? Do you have balance in your life? If so, I want to know your secret. How do you do it!? I posted this question on Facebook a couple weeks ago. It’s been on my mind. There were some good bits of advice but as you can probably tell.. I’m still a little lost.

Facebook Advice on balance

I can’t get over the shock that I haven’t posted anything to this blog in nearly 2 months. Where have I been? We’ll, the honest to God truth is… I’ve been working at Sony Electronics. It’s not an excuse, I know.. but it is a fact. As blogging and social media have become my full time career, I’m finding myself online  most of my waking hours – but as any of you who are connected to me on Facebook or twitter may have noticed, I’m not in any of those places as much as I use to be and I’m certainly not posting on my own blog here.

I have found great wisdom from friends here so I’m going to try something unusual today. A typical blog post from me is about sharing something I’ve seen or learned, but today I was hoping you guys might share with me. I’d like to bring some balance back into my life.  Many of you have families and full time careers. You are deep into the world of social media but you’re able to maintain, life, work, love and in some cases more than one blog! How do you balance it all? What are some tips you can share with me especially for getting all the things demanded of you done? I have to tell you, I’m having the time of my life…I am having so much fun! But I know I can do better and I want to find time to be present here again. Any advice?

    Dear Sukhjit,

I am not so surprised to finally read this kind of blogpost here! but I am surprised that there were no comments at all (since I am catching up on my blogroll a month and so after you wrote it, would every of your faithful followers be doing the same?? or did a bug erase all comments in the meantime? I am curious!)

Balancing life is something extremely difficult and important! There is no receipe, believe the older woman I am, who has tried with no success and lots of regrets: you cannot, cannot, do everything! and some priorities have to emerge at some point, meaning that other things you would love to keep doing are going to be done by someone else. But if you keep your priorities in check, you can achieve some balancing, because you will be happy with your accomplishments, and trust that what you haven't done was secondary.

As an example, I would say that posting on your blog is certainly secondary, otherwise you would jot a note everyday, some do so. What priority does it serve? I know you keep contact with all of us, even by writing every now and then, I know where to find you if I worry about you and want to inquire, so the priority of yours to be in touch, is still accomplished, even though by different means than at the time you were having more time to dedicate to your personnal blogging.

    I hope I make sense!

Lots of love goes your way,

Otir, the last bit there really is the issue. Not being here, not hearing from friends in this format on this site, I think that is the problem. I'll never give up this blog… and I have two goals to bring some balance back. I need be here more and I need to get more exercise! All these things require time. I need more time to get my life back.

BTW- that you for this comment from so many months ago. I've ready it a few times over time.. but I wasn't prepared to comment until today. Go figure.

Big hugs to you my dear friend!

first thing. don't sweat the small stuff. think about what you need to achieve that day, and by the end of the week. I'm not perfect, but I find a good balance. also use systems that remind you of your schedule (phone with calender alerts, etc).being organized is not bad. just dont micro manage. if you have repeating events, figure out their optimal days and dedicate to that schedule. last, schedule time for yourself, you don't have to be at every event (even though I like living vicariously through your tweets and pics from time to time) …your real friends will be there for you even if you can't make their event.

one other suggestion, get yourself a virtual assistant; preferably someone in a different timezone who's awake when you're not.

    and those are my suggestions.

I have thought about the personal assistant idea… I really like that idea. I wonder how much it costs. Do you know how you find one?

I have no idea. I haven't looked. I wish I could remember the company I heard about when I learned about them.
