I have an announcement!

1 Heart 19

I have an announcement!

Today was by far one of the most perfect days in San Francisco. It’s on this day that I share some great news with you friends! I’m leaving SF, my home of 16 years, for an incredible opportunity! I’ve accepted a job with Sony Electronics as their new corporate blogger and social networking manager. It’s a big role that I am very excited to take on. I’ll be vlogging and blogging about gear, gadgets, innovation and technology AND keeping an ear out to listen to what consumers have to say about it all. I will be doing what I love most… community building.

In the many years I worked in television Sony has maintained it’s standing as one of the most coveted brands with a reputation for quality equipment. I’m proud to be chosen by a company which sets the standard for quality. I’ll have many more details about the job and my move in the days ahead. I plan to blog and vlog my way down to San Diego where I will live and work very soon!

Special thanks to my former TechTV colleague Patrick Houston who introduced my blog to Sony a while back. I also want to extend a heartfelt thanks to many of you who helped me get www.sukhjit.me off the ground. Tony Chimento, Michael Silverton, Alan Chaess, Eric Ways, Adam Helweh, Larry Heim, Owen JJ Stone and of course the head ninja in my team, Giannii Calvert. Those of you who come to this site, watch my content, leave comments, give me shout outs on twitter and facebook, you’ve kept me going! My biggest reward has been getting comments from people who have taken the time to participate in my content, thank you. I hope you’ll visit me on the Sony site and support me there too.

Congrats Sukhjit! I can see the "man how am I gonna live anywhere but San Francisco?" in your eyes. I know that feeling. I've been mostly in Long Island for a couple of years and no place is SF but the Internet and awesomeness are everywhere.

Your career is really following the path of "content" because every company needs to make good stuff now and have genuine relationships. So yes, there will be fewer big media funded shows but there will be more creative work made by individuals and companies. You'll obviously be part of that. Have fun with it.

    Stay in touch,
    @heathr

Have a great time. Can't wait to check out the new Sony motion-detection headphones.
  • Heather! I was so psyched when I saw your comment a while back! Thanks a million for leaving me a note. Yeah, it's totally true about leaving San Francisco. I sometimes can't believe that I don't live there anymore but you are so right there is awesomeness everywhere. I smile every day after I notice something else I think is cool about SD. It's good.

So, it is really interesting to see this shift in content.. especially to have come from traditional media. But what's the most powerful thing in this phase of content is the real connection with your audience. It's exactly what I was missing when I worked in TV.

So, thank you again for the note and hope you forgive me for the late response. I've been so overwhelmed with new town, new job, new operating system!!! You know what I mean.

Best to you and I hope to see you soon... maybe in Austin! --sukhjit

  • Congrats! I wish you the best of luck on the move and the new job!
I just moved and started a new job myself, I know how hard it can be.
But I know you will be great!
  • So you made the move! Change and progress are good, don't you think? Thanks for the comment here and on the Sony Electronics Blog! I'm so glad to see my friends leaving notes there. It felt like... I don't know.. it felt like I took my posse along! ;) Sounds like you are doing well, Sara.. So glad to hear it!
  • Sukhjit,
I'm so sorry to get this well wish off so late. You posted this on my birthday, and needless to say, I was in that space.

Wishing you all the best in this grand, new adventure with Sony, and I look forward to keeping abreast of how you are doing still here on sukhjit.me.
    ayana
  • Happy belated birthday, my Friend! Love that you are taking the time to visit my site and leave me a note. You bet I will keep up sukhjit.me! This is my place! I want people to visit and participate with what I do with Sony, but I'll be doing other things here too. Most likely I'll be easier to find at Sony, and will post here weekly or bi weekly... we shall see. In any case, so nice to hear from you and.. um.. did you save me any cake?
  • ayanabb
Thanks for the bday wish, Sukhjit. I have one last piece of bday cake in the freezer. You are welcomed to it. In town? I just wanted to add that it's wonderful and inspiring to see you making this next step. I shall definitely continue following you at sukhjit.me and Sony. Next time you are back in SF, let's meet up for tea, if you are so inclined.
  • ayanabb
adding: affirming always the very best and blessed.
  • So great your news! I have been in China so I only learned today!
  • Brian! I'm so glad you saw this news and the post on the Sony Electronics blog, I saw your comment there too. Glad you are back from China safe and sound. Did you have a good time? Will you be going there often for work?
  • Congratulations Sukhjit. Somehow didn't see this sooner. Sony is lucky to have you!
  • Thanks so much Shailesh! Great to see a comment from you here!
  • What a wonderful opportunity! Sony is lucky to have you as their new corporate blogger vlogger. You're going to have a blast and get paid for it too! While you'll be leaving your home of San Francisco which is a city like no other, what better place to move to than San Diego? I see it now, Sukhjit 3.0 live from Comic-con 2010! ;-)

All the best to you Sukhjit and the SF Bay Area will miss you!
  • Larry! So nice to see a note from you! Yes, San Diego is nothing to sneeze at... I'm discovering great little neighborhoods all over the place. Actually parts of downtown remind me of the East Bay! So glad you know about my new job. I'd love your feedback and comments as I try to integrate web video into the Sony Electronics blog... both mine and UGC. Hope you'll let me know what you think. --sukhjit
  • Sukhjit, Congratulations! I am *so* happy for you! What a long, long, long time you've been looking. And WOW -- Sony Electronics!!!?? -- that's HUGE! And the way you've described your position, it's like *you* wrote the job description ;) I've done 2 tours in the Bay Area for about 6 years (younger son born in Walnut Creek) and 2 tours in San Diego for about 8 years (older son born in SD). I love 'em both; I hope you will as well. All the best of continue success for you! (I'm SO looking forward to becoming a raving fan of Sony Electronics!) - jbundy a.k.a. @bundini
  • Hey @bundini ! Sorry it's taken me forever to write to you! I moved on last week and started my new job at Sony on Monday! Had to respond to your comment because you are so right about the new job. I feel like I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with this new position at Sony Electronics. I will, without a doubt be working very very very hard, but it's community building, content creation and gadgets... all things that make me happy! As for SF... well, I miss it (very much). But San Diego is really great. It has already surpassed my expectations and I keep finding things that make me like it more. I also have to say, my community of friends is scattered around the world, and I've heard from so many people about my job and the move.. I actually feel like everyone is doing all this with me. May sound crazy, but it's been quite the comfort with all these changes. Anyway, always a pleasure to hear from you! Hope you'll make sure to let me know when you visit SD! I will give you a tour of SonyHQ! --sukhjit
  • That is sooooo.. AWSOME, big time CONGRATZ, no one is more deserving i'm so happy for u good luck on your new adventure.... U GO GIRL...!!!
  • just plain awesome. 2010 was a down year and 2010 is an up year.
  • Saw your tweet and was at a loss, being completely out of the loop for some time. Sped over to the blog hoping to find an announcement that I'd not yet seen in my feed reader, and voila, here it is! Well, well, this is fantabulous news, congratulations! Will you still be able to get out to the farm as frequently as you do now?

Best of luck and every happiness in the world to you! ਵਧਾਈਆਂ!
  • Hey @justG! You know I actually noticed your absence lately. What's been keeping you so busy? Good stuff I hope! Yes, the announcement is fantabulous. It's a fun adventure, and a big challenge. BTW if you didn't get a chance to see, this is the official announcement from my new Sony Family: http://electronicsblog.sel.sony.com/sony/blog_p...
  • This is good news. Great opportunity. It's kinda sad you'll be moving, but I'm excited for ya! It sounds like a really fun adventure!! Your job there will probably be really fun, since you get to do what you do best, blog, networking, and being a tech junkie. I hope everything goes well for ya. Can't wait to see where this takes your life. I'm sure it will be plenty of fun! Congratulations on your new job! :)
    -LB
  • Hey "The DON", Funny I know you as lupin_bebop! Anyway.. we've talked since you left this note... but I just wanted to make sure to thank you for stopping by and wishing me well. I'm pretty excited to see what is ahead. It's been a scary thing to pick up my life and move.. but so far it's been an extraordinary adventure. My brain is working overtime getting use to the new job and the new environment.. and that is exactly what I wanted.
  • Congrats -- in San Diego you should definitely check out Rancho La Puerta -- it's a resort about 40 miles away from SD: http://www.rancholapuerta.com/
  • So noted! I will be checking out http://www.rancholapuerta.com, I love getting recommendations from friends... especially now, since I'm new in SD. Thanks for taking the time to send me a note! --sukhjit
  • Congratulations Sukhjit! WOW, did you know this when I saw you the other day? I can't believe you didn't mention it, so damn cool.
  • Thanks @whitscott! Yes, I did know! Hehehe! Thank so much for the well wishes! I'm really excited about this.. I appreciate your well wishes. --sukhjit
  • Japman
Sukhjit, sincere congratulations! Soundsl ike this opportunity is going to sync with you really well!

Will you still keep this site running?

You're so inspiring! Keep it up. And of course, lakh lakh vadhaayaan :)
  • Hey there Japman! Shukirya for the well wishes. I'm very excited. Yes, I will keep this blog going! There will be some changes to the content, but I'll certainly keep this site alive! Thank you so much for the note! I know the word "community" gets tossed around a lot these days but the comments I've gotten to my news really make me feel like I've been embraced by MY community. =)
    --sukhjit
  • Congratulations and very happy for you, even i don't know you.
  • LOL! Great comment! Always love to meet new people that come to my blog! Appreciate the well wishes and great to meet you. --sukhjit
  • Sukhjit!!!!

I am so excited for you. Sony just got a kick-butt, superstar blogger! IF you need any product testing, Theme song writing, video addicts...ahem ahem... I am only a call, tweet, email, seesmic video, blog comment away!

    Take care,
    Taylor
  • Hello Sir! SO nice to see you and of course I will think of you when testing, writing, playing, etc, etc are needed. I'm so glad to share this good news with you all. It's amazing to see so many people I haven't talked to in a while are so happy about my news. Really goes to show what a great community I have. I was just remembering when you got your new job too! Remember that! Anyway, great to see a message from you Taylor! --sukhjit
  • congratulations!
  • Hey @loic! So nice to see you and great that you spent time commenting on my site! I appreciate it! As for Le Web.. hmmm. I love that idea. Lemme see what I can do... =)

Also, is your blog typepad? Trying to figure out why your vcomments work and mine don't. I'm on wordpress.
  • yes it's typepad, maybe it's the wordpress updates and our plugin which is
not compatible with the latest versions, someone needs to adapt it and we
don't have any resources for that... will also investigate
  • Hey Sukhjit, I was checking out some of your posts and video's and came across this super exciting one...I had to stop by to congratulate you! That's a big deal, and I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job. This is fairly new territory for me and I'm enjoying it, learning lots, and meeting great people. Keep up the great work!
  • Thanks so much for coming to my site and leaving a comment! I really appreciate it. Sounds like you are on the right path.. social media is all about learning and connecting! Glad to meet you. --sukhjit
  • You're absolutely right...social media is all about connecting and learning. Very nice to meet you, too.

    Cheers,
    Aaron
  • Wow! I'm out of the loop :)

    CONGRATS!!
  • Hey @qthrul thank you so much for the comment here on my blog! Always nice to see a visit from you. Also just seeing your tweet! Thanks so much for spreading the word. I'm very happy about the news! Will have to catch up with you in SD now instead of SF! Not sure what kind of travel schedule I will have, but I hope you will keep me posted on good events. I certainly want to represent whenever I can! Thanks again! --sukhjit
  • congrats! Big @kspidel hugs of joy! Sad that you are moving closer to me and I am moving away :( Make sure you say hi to @jbruin and have her introduce you to the local @sdtweetup scene! So happy for you!
  • Hello @kspidel! You and I both know that in this day and age, distance is irrelevant. Look how many strong friendships and connections we've all made with people on the other side of the country and even the globe. It's mind boggling. We're all very luck to have been a part of Seesmic, right?!

Thanks for introducing me to @jbruin! I just her her follow and hope to meet her soon. Maybe she has some suggestions on where I can live! Can't believe I have a week to do this! Eeek!
  • yickth
As usual, this news was delivered with consideration and style. I can empathize with you about the anxiety you must be feeling, having moved to Tokyo from the U.S. back in 2001. Of course you'll miss your old stomping grounds, but you'll soon recover and start having the time of your life (again!). The bee didn't sting you - a sure sign that all will be fine. Hey, maybe you can make it out to Tokyo to cover some new Sony roll-out! Satoko and I would love to meet you face to face if and when that happens. Well, Congrats, Sukhjit - a well deserved position:)
  • Hello @yickth! You know you are the only person to mention the bee! Maybe you are the only person who watched my vlog all the way to the end!!! LOL. As for Tokyo... I already thought of that.. I can't see why I wouldn't ever get a chance to go and OF COURSE I would make a point to meet you and Satoko in real life.. though funny enough I already feel like I have met you before. Video is awesome.. (must get my video comments back!) --sukhjit
  • Of course we watched the vlog! The bee is not so visible, bu your reaction to it is definitely worth watching! You were very brave, and the show went on as always!
  • LOL @otir! I wasn't sure since no one else said anything about the bee! I thought about editing.. but I decided why? It's fine and really... since I didn't get stung.. it was good luck! You are right, the show must go on!
  • doverbey
So I talked with Sukhjit yesterday and me and my wife (@jaoverbey) are putting something together so we can say goodbye to one of my most favorite people on this planet. Sukhjit is checking her schedule but it will most likely be in the next two weeks. I hope all of you that can, will join us as we send off a dear friend. San Diego has gained a "one of a kind" person and I personally could not be happier or more proud of you. We both love you tons!
  • Just seeing this note from you @doverbey! It is so very nice of you and @jaoverbey to organize a bon voyage! Wow. I'm going to have a going away party.. that means I'm really going away... eeek! XO, sukhjit
  • alicialamericaine
So, so happy for you Sukhjit! This position is perfect for you and so well-deserved. As Branford said, I already like Sony a lot more...

I am sad that you won't be around when I make my big move to San Francisco... but San Diego is absolutely gorgeous, so once you find a place, don't be surprised if I take over your couch on the occasional weekend! I think you should take up surfing, now. :)
  • Hello Ms Alicia! Yeah.. hard to believe I'm leaving just as you get here. I was kind of thinking that might happen when you told me your news, but I didn't have the confirmation yet! In any case, we will be on the same coast! We will have to make time to hang out, right?! How is your apartment search going BTW? What's your ETA for SF?
  • Gauthier
    Wow that's just great. Congragulations!
  • Thank you @Gauthier! SO nice to see a message from you! How are you? How is school? I have not talked to you in a very long time. Hope you are well. --sukhjit
  • WOW! This is the news I've been waiting to hear from you Sukhjit. Congratulations! I'm seriously bummed you'll be leaving SF, but stoked you'll be doing what you love.
  • Hello @bradcoy thank you so much for the congratulations! Yeah, leaving SF is going to be hard, but I am so excited about this new adventure that I'm not letting it get to me too much. I must admit after 16 years of SF I wonder if I'll know how to survive in the rest of the world! =) Am trying to find good yoga studios down there too.. hopefully near where I live. Thanks for the comment, my friend! Make sure to keep Wednesday free for a bon voyage and please tell Ginger too!
  • Awesome ! Wish you all the best in this new adventure with a new job, a new place and a truckful of personal stuffs ! !
  • Hello @boronali and thanks so much for the well wishes! How is the cigarette free lifestyle treating you? My caffeine free month is over, but I haven not had coffee yet. I have had some chocolate and a little chai here and there... but really it's been good.. or I've been good! One or the other.

As for my move.. ugh. I can do this! I have 7 days... but if I could give up caffeine for a month.. why shouldn't I be able to find an apartment in 7 days? =) Thanks for staying in touch Emilio, always nice to see a message from you.
  • I'm sure you can make it ! !

And for my struggle against smokes, my first cigarette-free week is not that a great success, still one or two cigarette a day ... Getting rid of a 20-year habit is as tough as i thought ! ! But i'm on my way to stabilize under less than one cigarette a day ! ! ! Keep it up ! Spirit is on !

All the best for your renting-a-place adventure !
  • BronClune
I couldn't be happier for you. Go Sukhjit, go!
    I ALWAYS knew you'd do it. x
  • Great catching up with you this morning! Yaay for gchat PJ parties! Makes the distance seem irrelevant. By the way we must keep that habit up after I move! --sukhjit
  • A big congrats to you! Sony's doing some great things with their social media, it will be fun to watch you in your new role. Don't worry, San Diego's got an active techy community, too -- lots of meetups & such. It will be a grand adventure!!
  • Hey there @iizLiz! Great to see you and thank you for the words of encouragement! I'm in the middle of searching for a place to live and I gotta say it's kind of exciting! I'll be there in SD in about a week. Can we catch up IRL? Would be great to get a low down on the tech and social scene. I'm all for tweetups and meetups. I also want to try and find a place like @RShotel in NYC. It's a great hangout for the social media crew out there. Thanks again for stopping by! -sukhjit
  • Couldnt happen to a nicer person :)

    Congrats!
  • Thank you @davidhowell.. for the well wishes and for saying I'm a nice person! Hehehe! I'm sometimes not so nice, it's true.. but for the most part I give what I get. Always a pleasure to see a comment from you! Thanks so much!
  • Congrats, you deserve all the best! Love and hugs@
  • Hello @ikrissi! Thank you so much for the well wishes! Always great to get luv and hugs from you! Hope to see you IRL again soon!
  • congrats! very happy for you!
  • Thank you thank you thank you @ChrisCavs! It is exciting... the moving part is scary. Any advice for me?
  • sure! simplify, simplify, simplify! Get rid of as much "stuff" as you can before you go. it makes moving easier, and you can concentrate on what you really need. Good luck!
  • Happy to report I've gotten rid of 8 bags of stuff this weekend. Good advice! Makes the move feel a little less challenging!
  • Sukhjit, this is such an exciting news, and the announcement is very well put, you chose your scenery with so much grace and attention to the details, Adolfo and Thomas said it - and probably others from the other comments I will read it afterwards - Sony *are* the lucky ones to have you now!

As I said on Twitter, I am still trying to have the news sink in as for what it will mean for seing you as much around, because this is not only moving away from San Francisco, but I am trying to figure out what a corporate blogger's life is for the outside world watching. Oh! and by the way, I used to be an all Sony user by the time the Internets didn't exist! My first audio-recorder was a Sony and do I miss it: I think you were an infant when I got it and used it for my first choir rehearsals, it was the very first Sony recorder, everyone was raving about it! Then my hi-fi stereo was all Sony, I probably still have it somewhere in storage... just it was bought back in France, so I would need a voltage transformer to have it work now... and it would probably look strange... like a dinosaur?

Anyway, I love Sony, I love you, I love hearing about your adventures, I wish you the best of luck, and will be here to support you in the packing and moving stuff, what about starting a community support blog to assist you in the process with organizing tips and tricks?
  • This is a great comment @otir and I love that you read and participated in various parts of the discussions. Yeah, I know what you mean.. I have a Sony walkman from ages ago. I just barely gave it away.. just imagine I was so attached to it that although it was a cassette player I didn't want to give it away!

Yes to moving advice and support! Today, I've spent a few hours searching for a place in SD. It's not easy! Especially with such a short timeframe. I will leave SF in 1 week! Eeek!
  • Nav
    congrats!!!!
  • Thanks @altNav! SO nice to see a congrats from you! I'll certainly be doing lots of Bhangra to celebrate this one! Hope all is well with you! Feels like we have not caught up in quite a while. --sukhjit
  • NehaTiwari
I am SO happy you A. Not only got a job but, B. Got an amazing one with a company that is of your caliber! I am a little sad we didn't get a chance to co-work, but I will try my hardest to visit you in SD [I've never been]. Dig your toes in the sand and get ready to enjoy life dear--you deserve it. Congrats my brown sista'!
  • Hey you! I still have 7 days before I leave Ms Neha, we could still cowork!! Thanks so much for your well wishes, I am thrilled and so happy to finally be able to share the news. Now that I'll be far away I'm going to have to make a point to see your shows for sure! I'm a big fan of Rad on the Web. =)
  • kendraschmidl
WOW! Congratulations, Sukhjit! I'm so excited for you. This will be a wonderful adventure and I can't think of a better person to take on this challenge. You know, I'm not the most technologically knowledgeable person and I look to your blogs and other communications for insight... I appreciate having a source for information that I can actually understand!

I will definitely be following you with Sony, one of my favorite companies. Good luck- You're so lucky to be moving to San Diego, such a beautiful place! ~Kendra :)
  • Kendra!!! w00t! You are leaving a comment on my site! I am so thrilled. Great to see you here and thank you for the kind words. I will do my best at keeping you informed of the gadget, gear and technology. I'm going to be in hog heaven! --sukhjit
  • yickth
  • Congrats!!!
This sounds like the perfect job for you, and a great choice by Sony. I look forward to see how things develop.
  • Thanks a million for the message of congratulations my friend! I am so excited and also kind of terrified by the prospect of moving in 7 days! Wow. Anyway, I'm off for a morning bike ride, but wanted to thank you for the comment before I head out! --sukhjit
  • Congratulations, ma'am.
  • Critter! Thank you, Sir! I appreciate it. BTW the audio you posted the other day from the woman who got called by that guy who wanted to ask her out was soooooo very funny! My jaw dropped then I laughed hysterically! Hope you are well. How are your boys?
  • aye, it was hy-larious!

I'm doing alright... still on the job hunt.. boys are good though.. I've been following in your steps... dipping my toes into a little video.. :P www.pushinginsanity.com still working on it ..
  • Awesome! Very happy to see you have a bright path ahead of you. You see, good things come along when you're knocked off your original path. I'm glad you persevered through this last (almost) year.

    Warm congrats! Cheers!

    Phil
  • I often thought of the advice you gave me last year... I made the most of this year and really enjoyed the travel, the new connections and the really cool projects. I hope to keep that same spirit now that I will be working for Sony!

I hope all is well for you Phil! It's great to see a comment from you and I hope to hear what has been going on in your life. --sukhjit
  • WOW! Congrats. Will be sad to see you go - let's get together soon before you go!!!!
  • dotBen! So glad you saw this post.. so good to see you yesterday! Let's definitely get together before I go... I'm out in the next week or so.. when are you heading to the UK?

  • Laura! What a lovely message! Thank you for always keeping me in the loop about the events to be at in SF! Not sure how I will have as full a "social media" life in SD. Unless you decided to start blogging about So Cal social media events too! =) Let's make sure to catch up in real life before I leave next week! --sukhjit
  • ChazFrench
Sukhjit I'm so thrilled for you! I know you really wanted this. It's cool that we're both starting such major life changes at the same time. Can't wait to see where it all goes.

As to moving... After 15 years in Los Angeles and then moving back to the east coast, I have one piece of advice. Move it or lose it. Sell it, give it away, recycle, freecycle, compost it or trash it, but whatever you do, don't put stuff in storage in S.F., storage is a black hole of lost money. I still have a storage space in L.A. and I don't even want to say how long it's been, I'm hoping to get to L.A. in Feb and close it out.

    Big squishy hugs!
    Chaz
  • Hello dear Chaz! Yes, moving advice is very welcome! I'm not one to pay for storage space.. I think I'll be doing a game of keep or toss soon maybe via twitter... put it out to the crowd to help me pare down my stuff! =) Look forward to seeing you when you visit So Cal! --sukhjit
  • Chaz is right on with the advice Sukhjit, and I would second him (trust my experience, I moved several times and once after ... forty years of living in Paris, France, to the middle of nowhere in the woods, and then had two more moves each time downsizing...). Storage is no use, what you don't miss, you won't ever use, and what you store, you don't miss. The key rule is keep only what cannot be replaced
  • I like this advice! Remember last year with I did a room clean and we played "Keep or Toss" on Seesmic? I remember it clearly. I think I should do that again! Maybe this time on 12seconds! BTW- Thanks for the comment Otir... always a pleasure to share life events with you!
  • mvernon63
way to go! good luck. and don't forget about us up her in the north.
  • Well, my heart is and will always be in SF... and I am Nor Cal through and through. I'm excited about the new adventures and open to life in San Diego.. but I must admit, leaving San Francisco is not going to be easy. Not at all! Thanks for the comment. =)
  • Joan Lockwood
Yay Sukhjit! You rock and roll. Congratulations and Sony is so lucky to have such a fabulous community builder, gadget expert, video blogger and overall winner!
  • Lots of changes ahead for both of us! Looking forward to seeing you on Friday and catching up in real life. Gotta make the most of the time we are both in SF. Big hugs to you my friend! You're help the last coule years has been invaluable.
  • Congratulation Sukhjit on the new Sony gig!
  • Thank you Adam! So awesome of you to leave a comment on my blog about this. I am having a great time reading all the well wishes.. soon I'm going to have to switch over and get into apartment search mode! Ugh. Reality! =) Thanks again! Hope to see you IRL again before I leave! --sukhjit
  • Hey Sukhjit! Would have liked to have left a video comment, but I don't see an option for it. Anyway, congratulations on getting a job with Sony! I didn't interact with your content on here as much as I would have liked, but I want you to know that I love Sony products and look forward to seeing your work as social networking manager with them. Maybe you can pass along my thoughts about how to make Playstation Home relevant to someone who will listen. =) Cheers to the future!
  • Yeah, video comments have been broken for a long time. I don't think enough people used them for the companies who made them to prioritize fixing. I miss them a ton. It certainly made it more fun for me to interact with friends who came to my blog. I'm so glad you're a Sony fan! We will have lots to talk about!

Thanks for leaving a comment here Ashish! Always nice to hear from you! --sukhjit
  • that's weird because video comments work fine on my blog but yeah, neither disqus or us have them super high on the agenda unfortunately since so few people like you and me use them. It is a shame, maybe in 5 years!
  • kandychimento
Yea Sukhjit!! Congratulations!! Looking forward to hearing more from you!
  • Kandy! How are you? I'm so glad to see a comment from you! It's been way to long since I've chatted with you or Tony. Hope you are both well. Did Tony see this news yet? There is a shout out to him in the blog post... =) --sukhjit

  • Don't worry Sunny! I'll be home to visit Mom and Dad once a month. I promised Mom because she is a little freaked out by the distance! I think this will make me more organized... now that I have to book a flight, I'll be able to give you guys, Massi, Paby, Puaji, Rani, ect.. etc.. a heads up before I come so we can make sure to get together. Right!? XO, Sukhjit
  • Don't ask me how, but I was the first to comment and I recorded this video using the Seesmic comments: http://seesmic.tv/video/XyWt9q6KTD

    It
obviously did not pop into the site here so I will accept coming in on the tail end of things. Congrats Sukhjit!
  • LOL. Adam, the link to your video isn't working... sad to say, I'm not surprised. I'll keep trying though! I want to see what you said! BTW- Gold star to you too! Will you please tell @lebanesebyheart my big news!?
  • Sukhjit, I am reading everyone's comment now, and I checked the link for you it does actually work if you skip the /< br >/ that got tangled in the html. See here is Adam's seesmic:

Hope to see you and your family before I take off. I don't have much time left in SF, but am going to try and do a potluck in the park or some kind of tweetup. --sukhjit

  • Ginger! I am so glad to see you! I've been meaning to thank you for the "how to say sook-jeet" video you did with @doverbey! I love that video!

Yes, today I finally felt an ache in my heart when I was recording this vlog. It's been such a whirlwind and I've been so busy that it hasn't registered... I am leaving San Francisco. It's true... BUT I hope to be back often. SF is always going to be home. Thank you so much for leaving a comment for me here, Ginger. It means a lot to me! --sukhjit
  • Congratulations! I look forward to hearing more about this exciting career move in the future!
  • Hello Ray! Yep, this is an exciting career move for me. It really is an incredible time to be in social media and web 2.0. I am looking forward to using what I do to build Sony's online community. Plus, in case you didn't know this about me... I am a bit of a gadget junkie and being surrounded by the innovation is going to be a dream! BTW- thank you so much for taking the time to come to my site and leave a comment. I really appreciate it! --sukhjit
  • OMG Sukhjit! Congratulations! What a wonderful opportunity although we will miss you in SF! Can't wait to listen, read and watch your new adventure with Sony. Good luck.
  • Caroline! So nice of you to leave me a note. I may be moving but my heart is definitely in San Francisco. I also have a feeling I will be back quite a bit! Hope to see you before I make the big move. Maybe a potluck in the part or something... feels like the perfect reason for a tweetup! --sukhjit
  • Congratulations, you will LOVE San Diego!!! While not as sophisticated as San Francisco it does have a great quality of life, great beaches and fabulous weather. My son goes to school down there and would love to tweetup next time I am down there. Do you know where you want to live? DM me if you want some ideas...
    best of luck to you!

  • Marla! Thanks for the well wishes! I'm looking forward to getting to know San Diego. Two things are on the top of my list. 1) learn to surf 2) find a great place (like @RSHotel in New York) for regular tweetups. As for a place to live. That's my big project now.. just starting to research. San Diego is HUGE! Thank you so much for offering your help! I will send you an email later! =) --sukhjit
  • Great hang hotel by Pacific Beach - Tower 23 & Jrdn Restaurant - there are tons of places in La Jolla which is by UCSD...downtown GasLIght/Lamp(i forget) district...I happen to like La Jolla area...depends on where your office is....
  • You're an inspiration missy. Rock on :)
  • Hey there Ms Poppy! What a pleasure to see a comment from you! I really appreciate it! Haven't caught up with you in way too long. Hope all is well and thanks for the nice note about my new gig! I'm very excited. --sukhjit
  • That's amazing, I'm really happy for you! Next to Apple, Sony is my biggest fan boy company. It sucks that you will be leaving SF though, you are clearly the perfect example of why I've always wanted to move there, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer, more deserving person.
  • Eric! You've been a great support to me since I started this blog and I hope you know I really appreciate it. I can't wait to start blogging for Sony... and to get my hands on all the latest and greatest innovations. I think we'll have to do a weekly gear round up! Maybe tokbox... with all our friends. Many fun adventures ahead. BTW- SF is fantastic and I will be visiting often! I still think you should move here! --sukhjit
  • bigepaz
Congrats! But very sad you are moving away from SF. San Diego?!?!?!? Lucky :) Maybe i'll see you there when I go to Comic-Con next year :)
  • Thanks so much Eileen! I'm thrilled about the job. Yes, it is sad to leave SF. I actually got a little choked up while recording my vlog this morning. But I am ready for this new role with Sony and am so excited to get to work. I hope to see you before I leave SF. Am thinking of a potluck picnic in GGP if the weather continues to be nice. If not I most definitely want to see you in San Diego! Thank you so much for coming to my site and leaving a note. I really appreciate it. =) --sukhjit
  • WOW! I am so happy for you and WHAT an inspiration...I wanna be you when my blog/vlog grows up....(something new launching mid Sept...:)

Congratulations, Well Deserved & they are lucky to have your awesomeness. I only use Sony Cameras and have taken 100,000+ pictures w/ my Sony Cybershots (30,000 in the 1st 3 months of Beau's life alone). So, Kudos to them for great products and great taste!
  • Hello! Thanks for the well wishes Zane! It's been great watching you build your vlog and community this past year. I know how much work it is and I am so glad that you are making it work! I'm so excited about getting my hands on all the fabulous Sony gadgets! Back when I worked on "Travel Gear" for Travel Channel, I actually had a Sony Aibo on loaner. It was a great pet and the AI was just amazing! This is job is going to be a lot of work but also a TON of fun! --sukhjit
  • congrats!
suddenly, i feel like i'm liking Sony a lot more.
  • LOL! This may be one of my favorite responses to the news! Thanks Branford! Truth is, social media and community building is a new venue for traditional companies so I have a lot to prove. But, I truly believe, listening and interacting with Sony's online community WILL show it's value.. hopefully sooner than later! =) Thanks so much for leaving a comment here! I appreciate it! --sukhjit
  • we have also learned a lot from you at Seesmic and I am very glad you have found this kick ass position, stay in touch Sukhjit, no doubt we will quote Sony as one of the brands that get it the most soon!

you should plan joining us at leweb in Paris!
  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
  • Adam Smith! Thanks for the note! You've been an awesome support and I've really appreciated all the times you made sure I kept my chin up! I'm so happy to share this news with you as we've had similar paths... but I can tell you without a doubt, I plan to "CRUSH IT"! --sukhjit
  • Congrats on the new gig! That sounds perfect for you and it shows that Sony knows what it's doing. You + SONY = MAGIC. Mazal tov!!
  • Sean! Thanks for the well wishes! I must admit, I am proud Sony chose me but also really glad to know they understand that social media and the bloggosphere needs authenticity and thrives on trust. I'm a real person with a love of innovation and a passion for community building. I can't wait to put what I learned from my time with Seesmic to work at Sony. Community is so important to me... and I am such a gadget nerd... I'm smiling just thinking about what is ahead! BUT before all this starts, I gotta find an apartment! =) SO much to do.

Thanks again for the comment here Sean! Best to you! --sukhjit
  • Fantastic! Wow! Great! Amazing! Insert-infinite-string-of-superlatives-here!
  • Michael! So nice to see a comment from you! See... the Sukhjit Chronicles Wiki you started didn't go to waste! Thank you so much for helping me get on my feet last year. Your help was invaluable and I continue to look to you for guidance on community and innovation. So, now I'm moving too.. any advice on how to pack up my life and start from scratch? =) --sukhjit
  • Tried to post a video reply here. This may bring a grin, courtesy of Snow Leopard QuickTime Player 10's screen recording. See? NOW Apple makes it trivially simple, only after your YEAR of becoming a Jedi with all those PeopleBrowsr tutorials, etc.! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjcBgadPsqQ Never had a doubt about whether you'd succeed. We knew at the time it was Chapter One in the New Chronicles! This is just great plot development!

Sorry for too many edits on this reply, but as far as moving goes, the PODS thing worked out quite well for us; however, there are other similar container-type alternatives out there. Of course, Hiring the Professionals is Option #1 if you can. ;-) The moving itself SUCKS, but everything else is pure positive progress! ;-)

Update: Randomly, my video reply to the news showed up in my lifestream http://tr.im/ss3496 but not here where I wanted it. In all fairness, could have been Safari 4 fail on my end. Still, it's almost comical how long that particular problem has existed. ;-)
  • And away we go! this is awesome....
  • Hey Bro-in-Law! You get the gold star for being 1st to comment! Tried to leave you a video response but it failed. Here's the link if you want to look: http://seesmic.tv/videos/393xo4bCEN
