Preeth and I went to Puka Dog

It’s almost one in the morning and I can’t sleep. Why?! Because I had to do one last video blog post while I’m in Hawaii. I’m flying out tomorrow, but before I go, here is Puka Dog. It’s a hot dog shop in Waikiki! It came highly recommended from my friends Adam and Eileen so I made a point to go. Adam, in fact sent me a few messages about it so I knew it had to be something interesting.

If you’ve watched the video, you probably have a few questions… like “what does Puka mean?”, “why make the buns like that?” or “what makes the sauces so special?” Well friends, gotta tell you, I was so taken by the dog that I didn’t think about any of that stuff. My teenage niece told me later, “puka” means hole in Hawaiian… hole dog, dog hole, what ever you want to say.. it was delicious and I will be eating there again on my next trip to Hawaii! I wish I could go back for another puka dog right now. Enjoy the video.. and try Puka Dog if you’re in town!

If its Veggy Sunday you got to have a Fishy Friday…Curry night is universally got to be Thursday and Monday is always “Mexican Monday Madness”

We definitely need one of those around here. Thats one of the most unique approaches to hot dogs I have ever seen.

If you liked the texture/flavour of the dog, Sukhjit, you might want to try some of the tofu/soy dogs on your next Veggie Thursday. Brand does matter here, so check with your social network before buying (I haven't had them in years or I'd share my opinion). You should be able to find them in just about any supermarket in San Fancisco.

Thanks for sharing this fun experience with us!

i was gonna leave you a video comment but they dont seem to be working like normal, i just see a white space where my video should go. strange. anyway i'm glad you went to Puka dog, a friend from work told me about it but i think he was pronouncing it wrong because it sounded like Puke-a-dog which doesnt sound appetizing at all. i went to their website and they seem to have alot of options and they just look plain delicious. Hope your trip was fun, i'm still in St Louis until tomorrow then back home finally.

I read the meaning of PUKA– 1.South American shrub or small tree having long shining evergreen leaves and panicles of green or yellow flowers.
    2. Small roundheaded New Zealand tree having large resinous leaves and panicles of green-white flowers
