This is how you say Sukhjit!

How the heck do you say Sukhjit? That’s a question I get almost daily. Phonetically I say it’s sook-jeet… got it? Sook-jeet.

I think it’s probably easier to hear it than to read it so here’s a fantastic video done by my friend Derek Overbey with a collection of awesome friends saying it correctly! (I’ll be adding everyone’s name here shortly!)

My dear friend Otir made a video with her two son’s! Otir is French, so her annunciation has a certain French flair! Hats off to her boys too.

See! It’s not so bad, now you try… press do a video response on the viddler video player! Press the + in the bottom right corner of the featured video at the top of the page to add a video comment.

Last but not least, here is a “vintage” video of how to say sook-jeet. This video is from my first week on Seesmic!

@doverbey I absolutely LUV the video you did! It made my day. I am going to do some stuff with it and have it live on my about page! Also, I want to make sure to thank the brave souls who said sook-jeet. Many I know, but there's a few I don't. Do you have twitter names you can share with me? –sukhjit ((BIG HUGS 2 u))

    I still pronounced it wrong. >.< I can't believe I started a trend of mispronunciation >.<”

  • Jane

That was cute! I thought the pronunciation of your name was soook jit, and I like the way you embody the happiness of your name. Hi, I'm Jane, friend of Joe Aleo's who hooked me up to your site. I hope San Diego is all that and more for you, Soooook Jeet :) Have a great day!

Jane! Great to meet you and thanks for leaving a couple comments on my site. I really love to see when someone new has stopped by.. I'll have to thank Joe for pointing you this way.

Yeah, my whole life, my name has been a challenge. I remember being in school as a kid and feeling great anxiety when the teacher was doing roll call. My heart would race when I knew it was coming to my name. I've had many people say I should get a nickname, but somewhere along the line I just found that I'm Sukhjit, and just Sukhjit and no other name would do. T be honest, it's kind of fun to teach people to say it correctly. =) Thanks again for stopping by!

Next question: ghag … your last name is it … zggg-hag? I've been called “floors”, “flore-ezz”, and other combinations of simply “FLORES”

    .. anyhow, curiouser and curiouser…

you're inspiring me to do my own video blog! I love technology! (after I saw your piece on gurutube.net) … and am in the beginnings of documenting my parent's 50 years together: their struggle as farmers to come to the states, and their happiness, joys, and disappointments being here in USA where I was born. This way I can learn more about how the digicam works and things I need to be aware of: lighting, sound, etc … anyhow, thanks for being out there Sook-Jeet! There I said it.

Jane, I would love to help you get started video blogging.. let me know. As for my last name.. it's actually more challenging than my first name! I think I may have to do a video to show you how it's pronounced too!

Sukhjit, thanks for your offer of help. I am sure you will be hearing from me in the next couple weeks. This is my last week of school and next week is finals time. I won't have a problem with equipment…to me its content that I'm wondering about. How do I engage an Internet audience for X amount of time? What do I say? How do I keep things upbeat and capturing? I have a friend who was a producer that I want to tap him for suggestions. You are welcome to give me any suggestions due to your vast knowledge in communications.

In the meantime, I've got to finish this database….at least it's not preCalculus…that's tomorrow.
