Unboxing: Griffin Technology Wireless Speakers

Here’s another great innovation I saw at Mac World 2009. These Griffin Technology speakers are really fantastic if you want stereo sound without sacrificing a nice look. My friend Adam from notebooks.com really did a great job explaining why they were cool so I decided to feature him as the guest reporter for this episode of Unboxing! Hope you enjoy. (Hey Adam! When you see this post make sure to let everybody know if you’ve written an article about these speakers.) My favorite thing about the speakers was the lack of wires! Hip hip horaaay for wireless home electronics.

I have a handful of Griffin Technology products and I must say they have been pretty cool. Do you have any? What do you think?

  • We really can't stop technology from evolving, for now it is a wireless speaker and I am sure it is transmitted through frequency. I think the only downside of this is the static when the speaker is far off from the main docking station.
  • Static really is a bummer. In that setup it wasn't a problem. I haven't tested these speakers myself so it's hard to say if that's an issue with them.

Thanks for coming to my site btw. Always great to get comments from new folks. --sukhjit

They're awesome speakers. I saw those last year, I've considered buying some. If I remember correctly, when they came out, they were a lot more.
  • thanks for the visit Alan. Make sure to see @secretsushi's note to you too! He had some more details on the Evolve Speakers from Griffin Technology. As always... wonderful to see you! --sukhjit
  • Chaeseco, You are right about the price. I thought I remembered this product being significantly cheaper than my Apple Hi-Fi, but I was wrong. It is $350, which is still pretty fair. The product is called the Evolve. Here is a link to its product page on Griffin's site: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/evolve . Here is their enhanced site with a huge amount of great information on the product: http://evolvespeakers.com/ .

yeah, I heard about the Evolve speakers a while ago from GeekBrief.tv. I have a vague feeling I knew about it before than even.

It's amazing how there was never really any interest in technology like this before. With all the iPod users out there, people now want wireless player tech... and people are building it finally!

A couple years ago, I was considering building a second home theater setup in my house and I didn't want to run wires upstairs across the floor or ceiling wit the second setup. So I researched wireless speaker tech and it was disappointing there was nothing out there.

Now, I can buy a set of theses and pseudo-jury-rig a solution. =D
  • Adam! Thank you for good reporting! Both at Mac World and here with the follow up. You are fantastic. Hope you liked this video too.. --sukhjit
  • great job. its a tad proprietary, and there is other wireless hifi protocols to consider, but this is clearly the way future humans will listen to music, etc. now, imagine an internet of things. the ability to stream music directly from your phone to the speaker, or select tracks from the cloud. your music everywhere, hotels, airplanes, etc.
  • @kangham Yaaay Ishak thanks for the visit! You get the gold star!
