Unboxing: Iomega & Retrospect

I bought my first tera drive this year and it was a pretty fantastic investment. It’s a Western Digital drive that I didn’t research much before I buying. It was on sale and exactly what I needed so I got it. Now that I have it though, I’m pretty addicted to storing stuff, especially since I’m vlogging and video takes up a lot of space. So, on the advice of my friend Adam, who I went to Mac World with this year, I took a minute to find out more about the Iomega drives. Adam says they are one of the standards when it comes to external storage. I don’t know about that, but I do know that what I saw, looked good. I’m such a sucker for style.

Any of you have an Iomega and do you recommend it? What external drive do you like and why? More importantly, do you want the shot glass I got from Retrospect? I don’t need it and I’ll mail it to you if you like! =)

  • Yeah really i do agree with you it is really worth investing in a tera drive.really i too will be doing the same if i want to have lot of memory for my applications.

  • Breaking from the cupcake baking to say Hi to you!
  • Hi Sukhjit, I'm always upgrading storage, am using various usb 2 external drives, 2.5" bus powered ones for the notebooks and easy carrying, and 3.5" ones up to 500GB for external storage with the desktops.

I'm usually behind the curve by 9 months or so to get some bargain rates on $/gb, but last batch of 250GB/portable USB2 drives were only $39 each!

I feel bad saying this... but I was surprised iomega was still around. I can see they were bought by EMC; that explains a lot. It's good to see new installment. I've needed a sukhjit.me fix for a few days now! Good video. Keep up the good work!

Oh, Iomega! Those were the days. Remember Zip Drives? I just finally threw them all out but still for no reason I have about 100 Iomega notepads that were discovered in a storage unit in an apartment building in Los Angeles by my friend's boyfriend about 9 years ago. Wow, really got off topic that time. Ok, Sukhjit! To answer your question, I am a LaCie girl! I have two of their drives and I'm about to get another. They've never ever done me wrong so that's why I stick with 'em, plus they match. Not that I'm all into matchey-matchey but well, they do.
  • RJ!!!!! Were your ears burning!? I was just telling my friend Liz how much I was missing you! Thanks for stopping off and leaving a comment. Yeah, Iomega has been around for a gagillion years. That's one of the reasons Adam said it was a good vendor to check in with. I have heard from tons of people that the LeCie is a great drive. My FCP instructor said that too, apparently though a LeCIe drive went belly up at Seesmic Productions before we started working there... however, that was probably user error. =)

How are you RJ. Come back soon. I miss my partner in crime. Oh, one more thing.. you should look at vimeo for video posts. I think you'll like the way the interface looks, and it has little hearts on it.
  • Oh, I like the Iomega drives but I have found first hand that retrospect is not a very reliable product. I did like your segment. You're always wonderful to see and hear.
  • You are tooooooooo good for my ego Mr G! How are you today? I'm very sorry to tell you that I did not do any reporting on Filemaker... every time I went over there, they were too busy. But I'm going to find out if my friend Adam did anything with them. He was reporting for Notebooks.com.

Hope all is well with you.. and as always, thank you so much for coming to my site!! --sukhjit

"you don't know me but I'm obsessed with hard drive space..." classic geek pick up lines!
  • Pick up line! I'm just being honest! Hey, so do you want the shot glass or what? =)
