Unboxing the Roomba iRobot

Unboxing the Roomba iRobot" alt="Unboxing the Roomba iRobot" />

When I was a kid one of my chores was to clean the floors. I hated vacuuming, sweeping and moping. I mean, I really hated it. The only thing I disliked more was mowing the lawn. Since I moved away from home I’ve procrastinated on this duty and and put it off till there was no more putting off.

About two years ago I saw my first Roomba and I have had it on my wish list ever since. So when I saw this iRobot Roomba 550 on sale at Costco, I knew it was time. Even more, my schedule has been the busiest it’s ever been and even if I wanted to clean the floors (which I don’t) I don’t have the time. So, Roomba to the rescue. I don’t have to do anything, but make sure it’s charged, there are no loose things that could get caught in it on the floor and I press a button. Roomba roams around and finds dirt and cleans it. It’s so wonderful. It really is. I’ve had it for just a week and so far, my floors are the cleanest they’ve ever been. I’ve heard some complaints about Roomba not picking up dust on hardwood, but I haven’t experienced that problem at all.

I hope you enjoy the unboxing video. Of course I had to score it with some Bhangra music and if you made it all the way to the end of the video, you’ll have seen a little bhangra dancing by my new iRobot!

Congrats! I love my roomba :-)
Also like how you got the roomba to dance to the beats at the end, and in sync!

A great unboxing like usual ! Your roomba seem love the Bhangra music, perhaps that help him to clean ;-)
    I love it !
Do you know there is the same kind of robot to mow the lawn ? :-D

You have a roomba too! It's it fantastic. Some people say it isn't very powerful, but I think my floors have never been cleaner. :)

Hey Masa! Yes, I think the Bhangra did help Roomba… I mean, Bhangra helps everything, no? Great to see a comment from you on my site!

  • http://twitter.com/masamuneto masa

Yes , Bhangra could help evrything of the life ! Your Roomba show us good the good way of the music, dance :-)

how much time it cleans your floor? (how many m² ?)

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

It takes a while. It goes over the same place several times but since I'm not pushing it, it's not a big deal. I have only had it a week and I had it on for about 45 minutes for 1.5 rooms. When I oped up the dust area to clean it, there was sooooo much dirt. It really did a good job.

Ok thanks for your answer !

  • Tonychimento

I love how you open so many of your videos with a wave first, then you say hello. Cute. Congrats on the Roomba. Maybe you could set it loose in the Gulf to clean up that mess.

I havent had the opportunity to complain so far. It does a fabulous job. Just remember to keep swapping filters every 3-4 runs. :-)

cool unboxing! i had the Scooba which was the model designed for mopping hardwood and tile floors, it did a pretty good job but i lived with 5 roommates and there was way too much foot traffic to run it everyday. i might get a Roomba like yours for my new place cause no one is home during the day so it can run uninterrupted

I so miss unboxing! Yea Roomba. You have to tell me how it does. We just ripped our carpets this week so we have hardwoods throughout the house now. Two more things: 1. I love the Gary V wristband! 2. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fact that you still have the Unboxing cutter I gave you oh so long ago. You are one awesome lady Sukhjit!

=) So, did your floors get cleaned? Ours is still in the basement being unused. Now, with the dog, I wonder if the newer ones are better.

  • Ana Reyes

next time you come to my place, pack the wine, and the roomba!

Tony!! Ha! Yeah, I'm so predictable! Seriously… I can't help it – always do the same thing. Is there anything that you do that you notice you do when you watch it back via video. There were a bunch of seemic threads about this in the early days. Fun and silly stuff.

Hope your bloggie is ok. Did you keep it or return it?

Eric did you move again? BTW – now I want a Scooba!

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

Derek!!! You know it's not really an unboxing unless I use the “unboxing” box cutter! Are you guys remodeling?

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

Seriously, Anika… I think one of the reasons I waited so long to get the roomba was because I knew you weren't totally happy with yours. I gotta tell you though… my little Roomba rocks. Yes, the floors are clean.. and did you see! It can dance to Bhangra!!!

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

Ha! Nice to see you today Ana! I think you should come to MY place next! What do you say? We can do a teatime with the roomba!

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

Thank you for the advice. One think about the little roomba is that you do need to clean it often. So you just have to swap.. it's not a replacement ever 3 or 4 runs is it? That could get expensive.

the Scooba worked great for my tile floors, i just had too many people home at odd hours to run it like i wanted. I just moved 3 weeks ago, i'm in virginia now directly across the bridge so i'm still close to everything but it made my commute to work 2 miles instead of 25. Did your Roomba come with the invisible walls, i always thought those were the coolest!

  • Trisha Goldberg

    So happy for you! Congratulations!

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

Thank you TG! You know I come home and saw how clean it was in my apartment and then I noticed Roomba, just sitting there on it's charger and I had to say i love you to my roomba! I just couldn't help it!

Roombas and bhangra music; I can relate! I also hate cleaning and love all gadgets that allow some ease and comfort in my life. :) I stumbled upon your blog after seeing a comment you posted on Jim Alden's wall for his birthday. And from looking around your blog, we also have a similar name issue as in no one knows how to pronounce our names! I just might have to do an audio clip about that – been too shy to put myself up on video. :P

  • http://twitter.com/sukhjit sukhjit

Hey Sukhraj! Nice to meet you! Thanks so much for taking the time to come over to my blog. Hope you enjoyed it. Yeah, having an unusual name has been kind of a challenge, especially when I'm not in person to help explain how it's pronounced… but I keep trying. I'm Sukhjit and that's that!! Are you a blogger too? You should definitely try video, it's not so bad once you post a few… and these days all you need is a laptop with a webcam and an internet connection. Anyway – good to meet you.

No problem! I love what you're doing here. My blog is at: http://www.sukhrajbeasla.com

I podcast and blog about random things. It's called the “Queen of Happiness” and it's a play off my name: Sukh meaning Happy and Raj meaning King or Queen. It works. :) My webcam isn't all that great but I am looking into more videos via the iPhone and perhaps that will be the next segment to my blog. I'm always up for something new.
