US Airways Sucks.

US Airways Sucks.

This video is my attempt to express how I feel about US Airways after the terrible experience I had today trying to get back home from DC to San Francisco. I’m not sure why I’m posting this on my blog, except for the fact that I felt and feel really helpless as a traveler in this situation… and I’ve discovered since I started blogging.. that I have a voice and something to say regardless of anyone wanting to listen. In any case, I’m mad, and I want to tell you why.

I quickly want to say, It’s understandable that things go wrong with an airline, I think safety should come first… but from what I experienced today it was just a bunch of disorganization and cheapness on the part of US Airway. I went in hopeful that they would get me home and now I just feel upset and worried. US Airways delays caused me to miss my connection. Now I’m stuck in a town I don’t know without my bags in a hotel I had to pay for that I is freaking me out. I know there are many worse things in te world that can happen, but I think if there was even an ounce of caring from US Airways I would be ok with this just being an extension of my journey. Instead, I feel like I paid money to be mistreated and now stuck. Phheww. Please watch the video and let me know your thoughts. Nothing may ever come of this rant, but it would be nice to know I have friends who I can commiserate with. –sukhjit

PS the thumbnail above is a dead bird I found outside the US Airways terminal while I was waiting for the hotel shuttle to pick me up. It’s a dead bird. That’s a sign of a bad airline if I ever saw one.

  • Ah I remember being stuck in Newark the summer of 2001, it was like 110F and people were crazy, that was when I moved to this country, I remember all of a sudden having doubt whether I made the right choice lol
  • I never thought that an airline company would do that. As far as I know. If there is an hour or more delay on the flight the airline will announce it and if ever worst comes to worst, they will provide you hotel because of the inconvenience. That was really a bad experience.
  • This is a new story about this. This is my first time I know about it.
  • Hope this saves you from flying with US Airlways! Thanks for visiting my site! --sukhjit
  • Andrew
From the other side of the ticket counter.
  • Andrew, what do you do?
  • Andrew! I will talk to you more later!
  • That really is shoddy. I'm turned off of air travel for this reason. I really hate putting myself at the mercy of a system that thinks nothing of treating people like this. I hate to say it but it seems any airline would do the same thing and not blink. Glad you got home safely!
  • @sean808080 ALSO, my friend Jessica came to Philly and saved the day: http://www.zannel.com/viewupdate.htm?id3WD900RW46

I happen to like Usairways. However if I was in your shoes I might feel differently. I do think you did a great job with your video. As far as what the European passengers said about what the EU would make the airlines do in that situation, they are kind of backing off from that rule right now.

  • Jeff, how will you see this message if you're not on Disqus?
  • I am sad to hear your story.

Almost every airline charges for bags. You state that the price of your ticket was less than $250 to FLY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. What do you expect, a free hotel and free bag check? Concierge service? Gimme a break.

The weather was horrible today in Philadelphia, as well as across the entire country. I am sure that people missed their connecting flights in cities all across the country. At least US Airways was proactive enough to have you rebooked on a flight the next day, and give you a hotel voucher.

I travel a lot, and USAirways handled this situation perfectly. It's just too bad that they no longer charge for drinks, especially on the cheap fares like you bought.

If I were you, I would remove your youtube clip before you embarrass yourself further. It's clear that you do not travel very often.
  • Wow. Getting yelled at on your own blog sucks as much as US Airways
  • i hate it when someone leaves a not so nice comment on my blog, but it happens. i really hate it when i get nasty comments about my own opinion, its my opinion, i've been called an idiot for not liking a movie
  • Woo! Glad to hear you'll have some company and aren't all alone. I'll sleep better now. =) Since you've got the day (or at least the morning) tomorrow, you oughtn't leave Philly without trying an authentic cheesesteak, if you're a meat eater. And if you like root beer, there's little that trumps Pennsylvania Dutch birch beer. Walk around downtown Philly, if you get a chance. Like Boston, there are learning aids everywhere that basically let you enjoy your own, free walking tour. (If you've got an iPhone, you can also download the free HearPlanet application, which is kinda neat.)

It's fab that after the initial kerfufflery this is turning into a little adventure, after all. Enjoy it, safe trip home, and I hope to meet you one day. =)
  • Hey @justG hope you see this message
  • Thanks for the lovely response, Sukhjit (I keep wanting to call you Sukhi, does anyone call you that?). I'm glad you're home, safe 'n' sound. Tea? You're on, absolutely. There must be something here that rivals Samovar Tea Lounge in San Francisco (with which I fell in love when I went there during Macworld Expo earlier this year). And next time, don't even think about staying in a hotel!
  • US Airways can suck it, just like I sucked Robert Scoble's dick!
  • =/

Sukijit, I feel so very bad for you! The fact that US Airways did this to other people as well infuriates me to *<censored by="" homeland="" security="">* !! I genuinely wish I could help you get home safely and efficiently. Please know that my boycott of US Airways begins now! I will retweet, blog, and facebook this to everyone I know.

All the BEST WISHES I can possibly send your way till you return to SF!!</censored>
  • Willie! YOU rock and I really like your idea! Let's boycott US Airways and let's let them know how we feel. I'm gonna go post this on FB now too. Great idea!

Yeah, US Airways is pretty BAd, they have lost my baggage the two times i have flown with them, both times, they didn't know where it was till the next day, my choice is Southwest!!
  • @phul Never flying US Airways again.

Once you're home and back in your element, write a letter to US Air. They can't afford to be outright a-holes in this economy. I've sat at the gate waiting for transferring passengers who were delayed on their first leg of travel. You my friend, have the eyes and ear of many potential ticket buyers and I like to think that still counts. I’m happy to chime in on your letter, but I’m always looking for a good scrap… Hang in there Sukhjit, you’ll be safe for the night and you’ll be home before you know it.
  • Grrrrrr! Watch out for me US Airways!

You, my dear have kicked the "poor me" out of me and replaced it with fire. I'm fired up and I agree with you 100%. It is a really tough economy and we are all watching out pennies... but good customer service doesn't cost a thing. If they'd have given me just a tiny bit of respect I would not feel so horrified and pissed off by this experience. I'm actually all for adventure and understand that things happen, but today I just watched sloppy work, received poor treatment AND I had to pay for it. I would NEVER recommend US Airways to anyone.... I love to share good experiences with friends but I also think it's as important to help people avoid bad experiences too.

Thanks for the support today... you rock. --sukhjit
  • You have friends nearby, even if you don't know it. If you want to get out of there, let me know and I'll come get you. You're welcome to my Dad's room as long as you don't give me grief about the fact that I haven't unpacked yet. =]
  • G! You are awesome. Your kindness totally puts a smile on my face! I have to say, I like a little adventure. I don't mind things happening spur of the moment, but I just don't like how unaccountable US Airways was today. They really disappointed me... and they have my money.

In any case, your note makes me happy. GREAT to know I have friends nearby. =) --sukhjit
  • Don't mention it. Wish I'd caught you before you shelled out for the icky discount hotel they offered you. My father's room is probably nicer. Besides, I have bhangra. =]
