What are you doing now, Sukhjit?

The first thing most people ask me since I stopped working at Seesmic is “So, what are you doing now, Sukhjit.” That has been a really difficult question to answer. First of all it’s hard to jump into a new “job” when so much of my heart was in the last one. Second, days like the one in this video don’t make a girl want to be stuck in an office anytime soon. If you’re worried about me wasting my life away eating fruit an cheese and sitting in the park, please don’t. This was just a little break from a long day of learning the ins and outs of becoming a full fledged vlogger.

  • It's not bad to take time to relax and enjoy after a long working experience.
  • Hey Sukhjit!

Love the vid - it's a sweet and sour piece... some good times; some bad times... but you are making the best of it.

I also love the layout of your blog. Very nice indeed.
  • Doug! I am pretty thrilled that you stopped by. I'm glad you left a note too, so I know you were here! Yeah, the last couple months have been a bit bittersweet... but to tell you the truth, the fact that people stop by here to see what I'm up to makes it ok. The thing I liked most about my time at Seesmic was being a part of the community. When people come here and leave me a message ... I get to do that again.

This site has been liberating for me. I've had help getting it off the ground from a wonderful group of social media friends. I owe a lot to Giannii who suggested this site design and helped me get it off the ground. But for the most part I do everything. I film and edit all the videos and I'm having fun. I'm learning so much, it's like being back in school! Anyway.. next time you stop by, I hope you'll leave a video... I promise to send you a video back!

Hope you are well... and had a great Thanksgiving. I keep an eye on your plurks and occasionally see your tweets (he heh, that sounds funny). I really appreciate your message here! -- sukhjit
  • David Kippen
    Sukhjit,

Really enjoyed you on Seesmic. Keep up the good work. Things will be tough for awhile, but I'm sure they'll turn around for you soon..
  • Wow. Thank you for saying that David. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and Seesmic and consider it an amazing opportunity that directed me into this world of social media and web community. I don't mind admitting that although I've worked in communication my entire career, this last year at Seesmic helped me find my voice and I'm really grateful for that.

I appreciate so much that you came and left a note here. I'm having a lot of fun producing it and am learning as I go. Have a great weekend! -- sukhjit
  • Just wanted to say hello Sukhjit, Gregb from Canada, we met via Seesmic, really nice blog.

  • Sukhjit!

I just stumbled across your website and find it absolutely fantastic! Miss seeing you but know that I can check out what you are doing right here on your own site. I hope you are doing well and please keep in touch!
  • HEEEYYYY! Taylor Barr, Thank you so much for stopping by my vlog. I really appreciate it. It's been fun getting this off the ground and it is incredibly rewarding to see that my friends are already starting to visit! Please check back on a regular basis! I just added a contact page today so send a message anytime! I want to know what's new with you too!

BTW- why didn't you leave a video comment? Seeing friend's videos has been the most enjoyable part of having this space on the web.
  • OMGfree
OMGfree is officially now a fan of Sukhjit.
  • Do you know how cool it is that you came and commented on my site! It it really cool! My Man Godfree(1957) is now at the top of my netflix cue...
  • i love it. filming yourself is the new "cool" thing to do. don't they know? :-P
  • TAPPS! You came to my vlog!!! Thank you! I am pretty shameless with the taping these days. Yesterday I went to the park with my friend Dara and I turned the camera around to film us and she was totally taken aback. Dara and I are friends from TechTV & I think when you've worked on big crews and productions together it's shocking when you see your friend and colleague turn the camera around and start talking to it. I told her I am a one-man-band now... she totally supports it, but I think she still thinks I'm crazy.

Hope you are well... thanks again for the visit!
  • not only have i visited your vlog.. i subscribed to it. :-) and hey.. just think of it this way... "normal is boring"... so why would you ever want to be normal? ugh. i NEVER want to be normal :-D hah!
  • Evan
    Props for the site!
  • @evan (what did you say your username is? I couldn't understand). Thanks for the comment!
  • My username is "shigajet"...feel free to ask me what that means :)
  • Hey Evan... what does "shigajet" mean? You know what's funny there are so many similar sounds in shigajet and sukhjit.... that may be why I was really confused until I saw it spelled.
  • Great new site. Look forward to your content! All the best and hopefully talk to you soon.
  • Peter! Thanks for stopping by my site. I'm so glad you had a chance to look around and hope you will stop by from time to time. I also wanted to tell you I had a brief look at Smibs! I like what I see. I filled out a profile about my work and will also start to use the areas for a small business since that's kind of what I've become!

I hope you are well and I wish you lots of success!
  • Great website... I love that design... simple, efficient, neat...

Great to see you again in live video... :)
  • @technofeliz What do you think of the Gphone?
  • @technofeliz Thanks for the comment!
  • I always have the feeling of people thinking I'm weird for filming myself....haha stay strong. The sign looks great!!!
  • @ryangraves Thanks for checking it out! You rock.
  • Soo.. Happy 2 See Sukhjit Again :D

  • Starship Sukhjit in 3, 2, 1 ...
  • I am not worried about you at all. You seem to know what you're doing, and to know what not to do when unemployed. I trust you're doing the right things with your life!

Very nice video. I wonder if I will ever be a vlogger (I don't think so, I am still thinking of finding where I left my last two rolls of pictures to be printed out, so out of date! - the pictures were taken at least 18 months ago, please nobody laugh at me).
  • @otir Thanks for the comment on my site!!
  • very funny video, i get people looking at me funny all the time when i talk into my Flip.
  • @disposablepal Thank you for the comment and for stopping by!
  • Sukhjit -

Treasure that video that you made. Do you realize that it's probably one-of-a-kind? I mean, you're sitting there enjoying a beautiful day in front of a fountain that seems to be holding up the world, watching jets pierce a simple blue sky, waving a paper about a tough time in our history ...It's fantastic!

I've been laid off about 5 times or so in my life. The first couple were painful. The last one, which was in the Spring, was utterly liberating (and funny: it was exactly on April 1...a great day to lose your job, April Fool's).

I got to play with my son. I started blogging and learning about social media (it's pitfalls and it's promises), I became more relaxed about my career. I work now, but expect to be laid off again (at least until I decide to start my own venture). It's cool. All nightmares carry us into morning.

Looking back, I am so glad for every one of those layoffs. I mean that authentically. The times were not painless, but the pain went away, replaced by more useful things.

I haven't gotten much of a chance to follow your work closely (I get SM burnout real fast), but I am glad you're on Twitter & FriendFeed.

I promise to be a better friend on both services from now on. And I hope that your eyes give you the permission to see what a remarkable opportunity has presented itself to you.

    Ciao!

    Phil
